    • Eileen Kaye Berger, a New York City writer, teacher, photographer and mother, died March 9 at her home in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was 79.

      In her long career, she had taught and co-chaired the graduate program in photography offered jointly between the International Center of Photography and New York University. She also taught as an instructor and educational advisor for the International Center of Photography.

      Prior to that, she taught at Philadelphia College of Art, Tyler School of the Arts and Moore College of Art. She held guest artist residencies at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, N.Y.

      She was the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts grants and the award for Outstanding Young Women of America. Her photos have been featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and in major exhibitions and gallery shows worldwide. For decades, she had been writing a book about Janusz Korczak, a guardian angel to children in Warsaw during the Holocaust.

      Eileen's favorite place on the planet was Martha's Vineyard. She was a longtime visitor to Chilmark and Vineyard Haven. On the Island, she swam at Seth's Pond and befriended every bird she met.

      She is survived by her brother Paul Kaye, and her children Samantha and Milo Berger.ye.
