    • Dear Maury -
      How great to hear from another part of the family! When I first started my research this suddenly appearing person really threw me. I thought it might be a brother to Jake until I saw the census. However, I have confirmation for you that Sam was Jake's son. Sam's daughter, Irene Wolfe, told me that Sam was indeed left behind when his father left Russia. She does not know who he stayed with but there was always a suspicion that Sam was a son by another woman or, at best, a first wife. She said her father did not talk about it much and it was understood that you did not ask about it. Irene also said there was always "bad blood" between Sam and Jake. The other interesting thing about Sam is that he was a very devout Jew and was quite unhappy when he arrived in America to find that his father, and the rest of the family, did not observe the religion in the manner he thought they should. One of his brothers, Joe, apparently listened to him and became quite religious toward the end of his life.

      I would love to stay in touch with you and share new information. This summer has been very hectic - it gets that way every year - and my genealogy hobby has suffered greatly. Even grandparents can happily anticipate the beginning of school - no more babysitting!! I hope to start compiling all my information into some kind of document but just when I think I have all I need, something pops up.
