Notes |
- Myrtle Canon Fuller was born to Myrtle and Horace Canon on July 8, 1924. She passed away at her home on Monday, November 19, 2018. Graveside services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent. The service will be conducted by Father Duane Trombetta of The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans.
Myrtle was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. She attended South Highlands Elementary School, C. E. Byrd High School, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History at Centenary College. Myrtle had many interests and provided many charitable services over her lifetime. During World War II, she drove motor pool at Barksdale Air Force Base with the Red Cross and worked weekly at the USO. Myrtle also worked for some time as an assistant teacher at Henderson Street School and volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels.
Myrtle looked forward every September to helping with the Centenary Muses book sale. She was a member of the Shreveport Junior League and served in various capacities within that group. She enjoyed a monthly birthday club with her friends for many years. Among her hobbies were duck hunting in South Louisiana, being an avid golfer and gardener and beach "bum", and excelling as a duplicate bridge player at the Shreveport Bridge Association.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Horace Canon; her husband of 63 years, Clinton W. Fuller, Senior; her son, Clinton W. Fuller, Jr.; and her sister, Carolyn Canon Wilhite; and nephew, I. A. Wilhite. Left to cherish her memory are her nephew's wife, Patsy; and great nieces, Mary Ann Lauer and Sara Wilhite; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Fuller of St. Pete Beach, Florida; and a host of friends including her good friend, Lawrence Johnson.
