Notes |
- June 13 1939 to November 3 2017
Dr. Theodore Shiff, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on November 3, 2017 at the age of 78 peacefully in his home. He was born on June 13, 1939 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as the son of Louis and Tillie Shiff and brother of Rona Green.
Theodore was an amazing person from his very beginnings. He grew up in Montreal and graduated from McGill University and McGill Medical School in 1964. Among many honors, he was the winner of the Hiram Mills Gold Medal for science and was a pioneer in lipid research, working alongside many future nobel prize winners. He did his training at Einstein and Sinai Medical Centers and served as a Gastroenterologist in the community for 53 years. In 1979, he moved his family from Montreal to Los Altos Hills, California, where he served as a doctor and member of the Stanford medical faculty, helping to train many future gastroenterologists. He was a great teacher and mentor to all his students and even his daughter Liza, who worked with him side by side for many years. Family was his greatest joy and he always found a way to surround himself with all of them. He even found a beach house (his wife loved the ocean) to make a family vacation destination for all to share together.
Theodore is survived by his wife, Gloria; his four children, Stuart, Jonathan, Liza and Louie; their spouses and his ten grandchildren. He was a dedicated sports enthusiast and a devoted and proud Giants season ticket holder for 39 years. Even his years in Montreal included devotion to Montreal Canadians and Royals. He supported the theater and arts, and loved to travel and have adventures with his wife as official trip planner.
The family wishes to thank all of the community fpr their condolences and kind words.
