Notes |
- JOHNSON (HIRSH), ALICE GERTRUDE Alice Gertrude Hirsh Johnson, 83, departed this world to be with God on May 13, 2014. Alice was born December 4, 1930, in Silver Springs, Maryland, to Edgar Morrie and Alice Gertrude Doll Hirsh. At the end of World War II, she met her future husband of 62 years, Harold Lee Johnson, Sr., and they settled in Saginaw, Michigan, to share their lives together. Her career included secretarial work, retail sales, and ownership of Alice Johnson Real Estate. After moving to Harrisonburg, Virginia, in 1980 she became the office manager of the Harrisonburg Board of Realtors until her retirement. She was a people-person who enjoyed interacting with family, friends, and neighbors; playing cards and games; reading; and celebrating holidays. She was an active member of the Harrisonburg Valley Greeters. Attending church and charitable causes were her passions. Alice was predeceased by her husband, four brothers, and one sister. She is survived by three brothers, two sisters, and her four children: Patricia Lee Burnside (husband Gordon), Barbara Arvilla Paciotti (husband Joseph), Jackie Sue Johnson, Harold Lee Johnson, Jr. (wife Genevieve), eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. A graveside and committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 19 at Oakwood Cemetery, at the corner of Gratiot and Midland Road, Saginaw. A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM, Monday, May 19 at Second Presbyterian Church, 2665 Midland Road in Saginaw, Michigan 48603. A gathering to celebrate Alice's life will follow immediately in the church's Fellowship Hall.
