  • Notes  Married:
    • Jeanette unknown whether she died or they divorced.
Name spelled Gatz on 1860 census, but his age and place of origin match known birth date and place. Jeanette was 2 yrs older, from Baden. A Jeanette Goetz came from Bavaria to US 31 May 1850. Ferdinand's entry date to US unknown.

Ten years later, a Fred Gates, tailor, is living in the same household as a Janette Gates (1870 census)— their ages match those of Ferdinand and Jeanette, and this Fred is also a tailor.

The death certificate for Jennette (note spelling) indicates that she was married, age 46 years and 8 months; she died on February 26, 1875
